When Helping Becomes the Contingency: Praise, Reassurance, and the Risk of Dependence

From a functional contextual perspective, though, we cannot determine what a behavior is doing simply from what it looks like. The more useful question is what our reassurance is actually doing, and perhaps more importantly, what it is doing for both people in the room.
