The Editorial Advisory Board is a trusted group of clinicians, educators, researchers, writers, and subject matter experts who help RIACT Press develop clinically meaningful publications grounded in contextual behavioral science and the realities of professional practice.

Supporting Clinically Useful Publishing

RIACT Press was created to support books and professional resources that are not only intellectually sound, but genuinely useful in the places where clinical work occurs.

The Editorial Advisory Board helps us remain accountable to that purpose.

Board members bring experience across clinical practice, supervision, education, research, writing, and professional training. They help RIACT Press consider whether a proposed publication offers a meaningful contribution, reflects the needs of its intended audience, and translates its ideas into forms that clinicians, students, supervisors, and clients can actually use.

Their guidance may include reviewing book proposals, considering the clinical relevance of developing manuscripts, identifying areas that would benefit from greater clarity, and recommending additional perspectives or expertise when needed. Members may also advise on broader publishing priorities and emerging areas within Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Functional Contextualism, Relational Frame Theory, Process Based Therapy, and the wider contextual behavioral sciences.

The board does not exist simply to approve finished products. Its role is to help authors and editors think more carefully about the relationship between an idea, the evidence supporting it, the language used to communicate it, and the setting in which it will ultimately be applied.

This reflects an important distinction within the RIACT Press publishing model. Traditional publishing decisions are often shaped by anticipated sales volume, broad marketability, or the number of copies that can be produced. Although sustainability remains necessary, our primary editorial question is different:

Will this work contribute something useful to clinical practice, professional development, or the lives of the people our field serves?

The Editorial Advisory Board helps us keep that question at the center of the publishing process.

Board members may contribute at different stages depending upon the needs of a project. Some may offer early conceptual guidance. Others may review selected material related to their areas of expertise. Some may help identify reviewers, recommend resources, or provide consultation around clinical accuracy, ethics, accessibility, and real world application.

Editorial Advisory Board participation does not mean that every member formally reviews or endorses every publication released by RIACT Press. Each project is considered individually, and additional reviewers or consultants may be invited when specialized knowledge is required.

The board also helps create a bridge between the educational work of the RIACT Journal and the more sustained publishing work of RIACT Press. Ideas introduced through articles, teaching resources, clinical reflections, and professional conversations may sometimes grow into larger projects. Likewise, books published through RIACT Press may generate new educational materials, discussions, and practical resources for the broader RIACT community.

Together, these efforts support a publishing process that values scientific integrity, thoughtful authorship, clinical relevance, and the practical application of ideas.
